World Pansori Festival Seoul 2026: Free Performances & Foreign Workshop Booking
Event status checked October 1, 2026. The 2026 festival has ended. The schedule and booking details below are retained as an archive and are not current registration instructions.
The World Pansori Festival ran at Namsangol Hanok Village and Seoul Namsan Traditional Theater on September 25–26, 2026. Admission was free, while the outdoor performances, indoor complete performances, and foreign-participant workshop used different booking arrangements.

During the festival, an outdoor set was the simplest option for a short visit. The September 25 workshop was limited to 30 applicants, and the complete indoor performances lasted more than three hours. These options are described below for archive reference.

What is pansori?
Pansori is Korean musical storytelling performed by a singer and a drummer. Singing alternates with spoken narration and gestures, while the drum supports the rhythm. The tradition is included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Audience members may respond with chuimsae—short encouraging calls. These are part of the performance tradition, not heckling. If you do not speak Korean, a shorter outdoor set lets you hear the vocal style without committing to a complete narrative.

Friday vs. Saturday: how the programs differed
Friday, September 25: the opening performance begins at 1:00 p.m., followed by the ceremony. The afternoon includes “Sori for All,” “Hande Sori I,” an open mic, and a youth changgeuk performance. The foreign-participant workshop runs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 26: the program includes “Hande Sori II” and Pansori in the Moonlight, 4:00–6:00 p.m. The published timetable also lists Dance of the Full Moon, 6:00–6:30 p.m. Despite the concert name, do not plan for a late-night show.
Both days also have a complete indoor pansori performance starting at 2:00 p.m. These overlap with the other activities; you cannot attend a full indoor performance and the entire workshop or outdoor concert in the same afternoon.

How workshop booking worked in 2026
The two-hour class took place in the B1 practice room at Namsan Gugakdang on Friday, September 25, 3:00–5:00 p.m., with instructor Anna Yates-Lu. The official form stated that registration was first-come, first-served for 30 applicants. Registration has ended; a form that remains visible does not indicate current availability.
The archived application process worked as follows:
- Applicants opened the official workshop application form.
- Under Course Options, they selected the September 25 foreign-participant class; the September 26 choice was for citizen participants.
- The required fields included name, date of birth, nationality, gender, and phone number. The form used YYYY-MM-DD for date of birth and included a “prefer not to say” gender option.
- Applicants reviewed the no-show policy and personal-information consent before submitting.
- The instructions advised saving the submission confirmation and any organizer follow-up because submission alone did not guarantee admission.

The 2026 form asked confirmed participants who could not attend to notify the organizers before the scheduled date. The archived contact details were worldpansori@naver.com and +82-10-9559-2835.

The two images above are reference translations, not a separate application service. The linked form was the live application route during 2026 registration and is retained only as a source record.
How indoor performance booking worked in 2026
As of September 9, 2026, the festival page did not publish a separate reservation link for the general outdoor program. The workshop application was not required for those performances.
The indoor performances had their own theater listings and Booking buttons:
- Friday: Jeokbyeokga — 2:00 p.m.; listed running time 260 minutes.
- Saturday: Heungboga — 2:00 p.m.; listed running time 220 minutes.
Both were listed as free and open to all ages. The Booking buttons led to the theater login, and availability was handled separately from the workshop. The published running times extended beyond the festival’s general advertised hours, particularly on Friday.
The published 2026 contact details were 02-6358-5500 and namsan@sgtt.kr for the theater, and 02-904-2835 for the festival.
Accessibility and language support
The official 2026 festival listing promised captions or subtitles on major stages, large-print, high-contrast and braille leaflets, accessible seating, and dedicated guides. It did not specify English subtitles for every performance.
The foreign-participant workshop was designed for international visitors, but the listing did not confirm that all instruction would be in English. Accessibility arrangements described here applied to the 2026 event.
Getting to Namsangol
Take Subway Line 3 or 4 to Chungmuro Station, Exit 4. Allow roughly five minutes to walk to Namsangol Hanok Village, then extra time to find your stage or room. Map searches for Namsangol Hanok Village or 28 Toegye-ro 34-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul are more useful than searching only for the festival name.
For ticket gates, transit cards, and transfers, see our Seoul Subway Guide.
The city’s September 2026 calendar also listed Namsangol Chuseok activities for September 25–27, so the village could be busier during the festival period.

How a short visit could be planned
Friday workshop: a practical plan was to reach Chungmuro around 2:30 p.m. to locate the B1 practice room before the 3:00 p.m. class. That arrival time was too late for the 2:00 p.m. indoor performance.
Saturday outdoor concert: the published program ran from the 4:00 p.m. start of Pansori in the Moonlight through the 6:30 p.m. end of the closing performance.
Visitors were advised to allow time for walking between spaces and to check same-day weather and organizer notices because outdoor arrangements could change.
FAQ
Was the 2026 World Pansori Festival free?
Yes. The city listed free admission, while limited workshop places and indoor seats had separate application or booking arrangements.
Can children attend?
The official listings admit all ages. Consider the length of the performance: a short outdoor set may suit children better than a complete narrative lasting several hours.
Is the festival at Namsangol Hanok Village or inside the theater?
Both. The venue column in the timetable identifies the stage or room for each program.
Was the workshop open to people who did not speak Korean?
The September 25 class was labeled for foreign participants, but the official listing did not promise that all instruction would be in English.
What were registrants told to do if they could not attend?
The 2026 form instructed registrants to contact worldpansori@naver.com or +82-10-9559-2835 before the scheduled date.
Is “Pansori in the Moonlight” a late-night event?
No. It is listed for Saturday, 4:00–6:00 p.m., followed by the closing performance until 6:30 p.m.
