Haneul Park in Autumn 2026: Silver Grass, Sunset & Festival Tips

Published: Oct 4, 2026

Haneul Park in autumn makes more sense once you know what you are going for. Come for silver grass, big sky and sunset — not for a dense red-maple forest.
In 2026, the 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival runs October 17–23 at Haneul Park. Festival week is busier, with evening lighting, performances and activity zones around the grass fields.

Build the visit around sunset: Arrive in the late afternoon, walk the silver-grass field before sunset, and stay for the evening atmosphere. From World Cup Stadium Station, allow more time than the map suggests because the park sits on a high plateau.

Why Haneul Park in Autumn Looks Different

Haneul Park is part of World Cup Park and sits on a restored landfill plateau. Seoul Metropolitan Government describes it as home to the largest silver-grass colony in central Seoul, with a large field spread across the elevated park.
That is why the scenery feels different from Deoksugung, Seoul Forest or Bukhansan. You are not walking under a dense canopy. Instead, the view opens up into broad grass fields, sky and distant city scenery.

The Best Time to Visit

For softer light and better photos, avoid arriving at noon. The grass is more photogenic in lower light, and sunset is the main reason to stay into the late afternoon.
A practical plan is:

  1. Arrive at World Cup Stadium Station about two hours before sunset.
  2. Walk toward Haneul Park and give yourself enough time for the climb or current electric-cart option.
  3. Explore the silver-grass paths before the light starts to change.
  4. Find an open viewpoint for sunset.
  5. Leave before the final park closing time rather than assuming the plateau stays open late every day.

Seoul Silver Grass Festival 2026: What Is Confirmed

Seoul’s official festival calendar lists the 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival for October 17–23, 2026 at Haneul Park. The published program includes an opening event, lighting-based scenery, photo and wish zones, busking, hands-on activities and a park photography exhibition.
If your dates overlap, treat the festival as an evening extension to the visit rather than arriving after dark. Reach the plateau while there is still daylight, walk the grass fields first, then stay for the lights and programs. Individual program times can still change, so recheck the official festival page before you go.

How to Get There

The easiest subway base is World Cup Stadium Station on Line 6. From there, Haneul Park is not a station-exit attraction: you still need to cross World Cup Park and climb to the plateau.
Official festival guidance estimates roughly 40 minutes on foot from World Cup Stadium Station Exit 1, so build the uphill walk into your plan. For station exits and transfers, see the Seoul subway guide.
If you have knee, mobility or stroller concerns, check whether the Maengkkongi electric cart is operating and where to board it before you go. Do not assume the service, queue or payment details will be identical every year.

What to Wear

The top of Haneul Park is exposed. Even when central Seoul feels mild, the plateau can feel windier after sunset.
Bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • A light outer layer
  • Water
  • A small power bank if you plan to take a lot of photos after dark

What Usually Makes the Visit Less Enjoyable

  • You expect red maple scenery. Haneul Park’s main autumn draw is silver grass, not a dense maple forest.
  • You underestimate the climb. The subway ride may be simple, but getting to the plateau takes time.
  • You arrive right at sunset. You may spend the best light walking uphill. Arrive 1.5–2 hours earlier.
  • You assume festival hours apply every day. Park closing times vary by month, and special-event hours do not automatically apply outside festival dates.
  • You drive on a busy festival weekend. Public transit is usually easier when crowds and parking pressure increase.

A Practical Sunset Plan

On a clear day, arrive while there is still plenty of daylight, walk the grass fields first, find a viewpoint before sunset, and then stay for the evening festival atmosphere. This order is less rushed than reaching the plateau after the light is already gone.

Cost and Reservation

Haneul Park entry is free and you do not need a reservation. The only part to check on the day is the uphill access: the seasonal Maengkkongi electric cart, when it operates, is separate from park admission and can have a queue. If you are happy to walk, there is no ticket to buy. Check the official park notice for current gate and cart information before an evening visit.
